PASOS (Policy Association for an Open Society) is a network of 33 independent think-tanks spanning 21 countries in Central and Eastern Europe and Central Asia

A major networking event for the international policy community tackling key foreign policy challenges and issues surrounding democratisation and economic development in the EU's eastern neighbours

Participants: Policy centres from Central and Eastern Europe Ukraine, Russia, Caucasus, South-Eastern Europe, and Central Asia, international policy experts, government officials, diplomatic corps, west European think-tanks with a focus on EU external relations, partners of PASOS network, development agencies, technical assistance consultancies

The conference will address the following strategic areas:

  • The role of the EU Presidency in Setting Strategy
  • Strengthening Democracy Promotion as a Pillar of a Common EU Foreign Policy
  • Threats to Democracy in New and Prospective EU Member-States
  • Extractive Industries Transparency and a Common EU Energy Policy: Levers towards Democratic Accountability?
  • The European Neighbourhood Policy as a Tool (a) Towards European Integration, and (b) to Resolve ‘Frozen Conflicts’
  • Public Policy Education and Research Workshop - Potential Partnerships between Policy Centres and Policy Schools

The conference will take place in conjunction with the PASOS General Assembly 2007 (a meeting of the PASOS members - 30 Members and 3 Associate Members spanning 21 countries in Central and Eastern Europe and Central Asia).
