The organising committee is pleased to invite paper proposals for the International Conference on Central Eurasian Studies, organised by the Maltepe University (Turkey), the University of Tokyo, Islamic Area Studies (Japan), and the University of Tsukuba (Japan) to be held on 17-19 March 2009 at the Maltepe University Campus, Istanbul, Turkey.
The Central European University (CEU), in co-operation with the Local Government and Public Service Reform Initiative (LGI) of the Open Society Institute (OSI), organises two summer courses in 2009 in Budapest, Hungary. The Intergovernmental Fiscal Relations and Local Financial Management course will be held on July 13-24, while the course on Public Management of Urban Change in Transitional Cities will take place on June 29 - July 10, 2009.
The Open Society Justice Initiative, an operational program of the Open Society Institute (OSI), joins with Central European University (CEU) to announce the Justice Initiative Fellows Program for 2009–2011.
Overview
The aim of the Justice Initiative Fellows Program is to support and further develop a network of lawyers and activists working internationally on human rights-related issues. Since its start in 1996, 165 fellows have graduated from the Justice Initiative’s Fellowship program.
The Justice Initiative Fellows Program is a two-year program of study and practical work experience. Up to ten applicants will be selected to participate in the 2009 program. Applicants from the following regions and countries are eligible: Central and Eastern Europe, the former Soviet Union, Africa, East, South and Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Central and South America.
The Mundus MAPP Consortium is inviting applications for post-doctoral fellowships from outstanding scholars from outside Europe. The Erasmus Mundus Masters Program in Public Policy (Mundus MAPP) is a 2-year-long international Masters course that embeds the nascent field of transnational public policy into a European context.
It is funded by the European Commission, and operated by a consortium of four leading European institutions: the Central European University in Budapest (Hungary) as coordinating institution, the Barcelona Institute of International Studies (IBEI) in Spain; the Institute of Social Studies (ISS) in The Hague (Netherlands); and the University of York in the UK.

The Mellon Foundation provides a fixed stipend to cover return travel, accommodation, and all living expenses. The fellowships are tenable for three months, in the period June 2008-May 2009.

The OSI Fellowship will enable outstanding individuals from around the world - journalists, activists, academics, practitioners - to work on projects that inspire meaningful public debate, shape policy, and inform the thinking and activities of the Open Society Institute and the Soros foundations. Fellows' projects may include books, articles, documentary films, online media, and efforts to seed new campaigns and organizations. The Fellowship, directed by Leonard Benardo, focuses on four areas: National Security and the Open Society; Citizenship, Membership and Marginalization; Strategies and Tools for Advocacy and Citizen Engagement; and Understanding Authoritarianism.
OSI may also support a limited number of projects that fall outside these areas but are within the scope of OSI's mission. Fellows will receive competitive stipends, communications assistance, and access to OSI's networks of partners and grantees. Most Fellowships will be awarded for one year but longer or shorter durations may be considered. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
Amount note: Participants in CRFP will conduct research in the United States for four months and will receive the following:

3. Monthly stipend

5. Access to libraries and archives
6. Professional development and alumni activities
Amount note: Each fellow will receive the sum of 14,500 Euros to cover the costs of his stay in Rome and his travel expenses. Payment will be made in two installments - a first one of 8,000 Euros immediately after the fellow's arrival at the college, and a second one of 6,500 Euros at the beginning of the third month.
