One year after the last elections to the European Parliament, this debate will focus on the issue of the parliament’s achievements over the past year, and its future challenges. Particular attention will be given to the Lisbon Treaty changes. Moreover, the experts will discuss the future of the European Parliament from the perspective of current political developments after the Czech Republic's general election in May 2010 and the Polish Presidential election first-round vote on 20 June 2010.

The publication will be available free of charge at the seminar.

About the project:

The study conducted by IPA experts is based on Polish case studies compared with the experience of other EU countries. The research focused on:

  • sociological analysis of the election to the European Parliament;
  • analysis of the electoral law to the European Parliament and its impact on elections;
  • analysis of the political debate before the elections to the European Parliament;
  • the role of the media in the elections to the European Parliament;
  • the role of NGOs in the election process;
  • populism in the elections to the European Parliament.

The project is undertaken with the support of the European Union: Support for organisations active at European level in the field of active European citizenship in the framework of the Europe for Citizens’ Programme.
