Conference: Caucasus Studies in Migration, Society, Language - call for abstracts

The conference brings together researchers in Caucasus studies for a discussion of current developments in the region. How are these dynamics to be understood and explained from political, anthropological, historical, linguistic and cultural perspectives? We welcome multidisciplinary papers and also encourage presentation of research in progress.
Papers will be organized into thematic panels, such as:

Open Society Fellowship (applications accepted on a rolling basis)

The OSI Fellowship will enable outstanding individuals from around the world - journalists, activists, academics, practitioners - to work on projects that inspire meaningful public debate, shape policy, and inform the thinking and activities of the Open Society Institute and the Soros foundations. Fellows' projects may include books, articles, documentary films, online media, and efforts to seed new campaigns and organizations. The Fellowship, directed by Leonard Benardo, focuses on four areas: National Security and the Open Society; Citizenship, Membership and Marginalization; Strategies and Tools for Advocacy and Citizen Engagement; and Understanding Authoritarianism.

OSI may also support a limited number of projects that fall outside these areas but are within the scope of OSI's mission. Fellows will receive competitive stipends, communications assistance, and access to OSI's networks of partners and grantees. Most Fellowships will be awarded for one year but longer or shorter durations may be considered. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.

Reagan-Fascell Democracy Fellows programme, National Endowment for Democracy (NED), USA

The National Endowment for Democracy (NED) invites applications to its Reagan-Fascell Democracy Fellows Program. Established in 2001 to enable democracy practitio-ners and scholars from around the world to deepen their understanding of democracy and enhance their ability to promote democratic change, the programme is based at NED’s International Forum for Democratic Studies, in Washington, D.C.
Program: The program offers five-month fellowships for practitioners to improve strategies and techniques for building democracy abroad and five- to ten-month fellowships for scholars to conduct original research for publication. Practitioners may include activists, lawyers, journalists, and other civil society professionals; scholars may include professors, research analysts, and other writers. Projects may focus on the political, social, economic, legal, and cultural aspects of democratic development, and may include a range of methodologies and approaches.
