International Center for Human Development, Armenia, becomes newest member of PASOS

The PASOS network of independent think-tanks in Central and Eastern Europe and Central Asia has continued to extend its reach in the South Caucasus with the inclusion of the International Center for Human Development, the first member from Armenia. (PASOS has two members in Azerbaijan and two members in Georgia.)
Following the approval of ICHD's membership by the PASOS Board of Directors, PASOS (Policy Association for an Open Society) now comprises 30 members and three Associate Members spanning 21 countries in Central and Eastern Europe and Central Asia. PASOS promotes and protects open society values, including democracy, the rule of law, good governance, respect for and protection of human rights, and economic and social development, by supporting policy centres. The founding Assembly of PASOS took place in December 2004, and the PASOS Secretariat was established in Prague in March 2005. This year's PASOS annual think-tanks' conference, together with the PASOS Assembly, will take place in Berlin, Germany, on 1-3 November 2007. For more details on the conference, see:

The International Center for Human Development (ICHD) was established in March 2000 and is now considered one of the leading think-tanks in the South Caucasus. Through pursuit of its core principles and objectives, ICHD strives to unite the most prominent representatives of the public, scientific, cultural, and business sectors of the region, to strengthen democratic mechanisms and to foster free market values, while simultaneously crafting regional collaboration and economic development strategies for the countries of the Caucasus.
ICHD strives to strengthen civil society, to contribute to regional integration and peace building, and to the development of the social sector and poverty alleviation, to assist governance and public sector reforms, to develop free market institutions, to develop good practice in local governance, to raise awareness on environmental issues and on primary health care, andto promote Armenian culture.
For over five years, ICHD has implemented a wide range of projects and activities in the following spheres: regional integration/ peacebuilding; civil society strengthening; good governance and transparency; economic development; primary health care; culture. ICHD's mission is to help improve policies and decision-making through research, analysis, training and advocacy.
