PASOS becomes member of the Central and Eastern European University Network (CEEUN), an international network of applied research on transition issues

At its Annual Meeting, held as part of the European Forum Alpbach, in Alpbach, Austria on 1-2 September 2005, the Central and Eastern European University Network (CEEUN) invited PASOS (Policy Association for an Open Society) to become a member of the CEEUN - Transition Studies World Applied Research network.

02 September 2005, Prague

With its focus on transition studies, the CEEUN complements the strengths and focus of PASOS members, and PASOS has accepted the invitation to join an important network of applied research. PASOS brings to CEEUN a network of 23 policy centres in Central and Eastern Europe and Central Asia, designing public policy at the local, national and international level. CEEUN will provide a forum for PASOS to spread innovative policy research; in turn PASOS brings to CEEUN a range of expertise in governance, democratisation, public administration reform, European integration and European Neighbourhood policy issues, and economic and social development.

The co-ordinator of CEEUN and editor of the quarterly journal Transition Studies Review is Giorgio Dominese, Professor, Economics Faculty, Udine University, and Political Science Faculty, Luiss University, Rome. PASOS Executive Director Jeff Lovitt will serve on the Network Steering Committee of CEEUN.

The network is currently engaged in the following areas of applied research:
* Europe and the World: Integration, Neighbourhood Policies and Beyond;
* Finance, Banking, Insurance and Monetary Policies;
* International Economics, Inequalities, Cooperation and Development;
* Public Finance, Fiscal Issues and Growth;
* Entrepreneurship and Innovation;
* Governance, Democracy, Society and Choices;
* Legal Cooperation and International Comparative Law;
* International Relations and Foreign Policy;
* Regional Studies and Spatial Planning;
* Transport, Infrastructures and Architecture;
* Culture, History and Education;
* Environment and Climate; and
* Quantitative and Statistical Methods.

PASOS will serve as a referent to the Governance, Democracy, Society and Choices area.
